Everyone who lived through the 2017 Tubbs and Nuns fires in Sonoma County was deeply affected, even if they were fortunate enough not to lose their home. As a response to that disaster, Art at Nine created over 30 sculptures for families who lost their homes, at no charge, using salvaged materials from their burned home sites. Prior to distributing the pieces, an art show featuring all of the pieces brought together survivors, members of the community and tourists. As a part of the show, comments, thoughts and memories were solicited and displayed on a bulletin board and in a book for all to absorb. A postcard and poster were used to advertise the show, and a different poster greeted attendees to the show. The photo used on the postcard and poster was a combination of three heavily edited stock photos; the photo on the show poster showed the “From the Ashes We Will Rise” sign installed (illegally) by Art at Nine on the Welcome to Santa Rosa sign on December 25, 2017.
